Local Tickets

OVERVIEW
Local Tickets is a company that aims to fix the problems with live entertainment ticketing in Denver. Monopolies such as Ticketmaster have fundamentally changed the live event scene for the worse, making it harder than ever for fans to get and keep track of their tickets without worrying about price gouging and botting.

THE CHALLENGE
My team and I were tasked with making a new ticketing app for Local Tickets. The goal was to have an all-in-one place for fans to find events, buy and keep track of tickets, and connect with friends going to shows. With this app, we aim to combat companies like Ticketmaster who have monopolized the ticketing market and make an easier, more effective way for people to enjoy live events in their local area.
RESEARCH
We conducted 5 user interviews with concert goers ranging from people who go to a few shows a year to people who go to many shows every week. We received a ton of great feedback and the biggest pain points users were having mainly had to do with ticket transparency. Knowing the full price of the ticket up front, knowing where your seats are going to be (quality of seats), and knowing where your tickets will end up after purchase were very important to users. These users also wanted finding shows to be easy through personalized recommendations and the ability to search and filter through events.

COMPETITION
During our research, we also looked into our competition, both big and small. Looking at ticketing giants like Ticketmaster and AXS, and also looking into smaller companies like DICE and PeakRadar. Through this research our biggest insights were that Ticketmaster and other popular companies hav a lot of issues with ticket transparency. Prices upfront don't accurately reflect the price you pay at checkout and the overall information you get about the tickets is minimal (seat quality, ticket tracking and transferring, etc.). When looking at the smaller companies, we took the most inspiration from DICE. They have a very clean interface that's user friendly and finding/keeping track of tickets is much more simple than the larger apps.

PERSONA
With lots of good insights into our target users we were able to come up with our persona, Rowan.

PROBLEM STATEMENT
Rowan wants to get into the local music scene in Denver, but current apps/services are either untrustworthy or lack important information needed to make informed decisions about buying tickets. Rowan needs an easy way to find and book events in their area, keep track of their tickets, and connect with friends attending the event so they can continue their enjoyment of live music and start going to more shows.
IDEATION
My team and I begun designing screens by sketching out own ideas separately, then coming together and picking the ideas we all liked the best.
Our main goals for the app were to make finding tickets easy, showing all the details about tickets before purchasing (total price including tax and fees, images of the venue to see seat quality, etc.), and having somewhere to easily keep track of your events/tickets. We also wanted to add a more social aspect where you can see shows friends are attending, so all of this needed to be reflected in our sketches.

Once we were all happy with the sketches, we moved into wireframing, keeping our persona in mind to meet user needs.
We wanted everything to be very easy to navigate, so we kept most screens simple with large buttons and text to show you exactly what you need. Other important details included ticket transparency when purchasing, familiar checkout, social features to see what friends are up to or form groups for events, and easy ticket tracking with event/venue info.

DESIGN
Happy with all the screens we made, my team and I got to work designing the HiFi prototype. We wanted the color scheme to feel comforting but a little moody to fit the vibe of a small venue show, so we went with this green-blue color palate that we felt fit the mood of a live show. We wanted to keep the text readable and accessible so we went with Helvetica for its readability and high contrast.
The home page gives you personal recommendations as well as easy access to the different sections of the app.

Our persona wanted finding events to be easy so we designed our search pages to give as much filtering as needed, while also keeping it easy to understand and navigate.

Users wanted to know the full cost of the tickets up front with no surprises and know the quality of their seats before purchasing, so we made sure to have total costs displayed when choosing your seats, as well as a map of the venue and a button you can press to see images of the venue to have a good idea of what you'll see at the event.

After purchasing, you have the option to add your ticket to your Apple Wallet, and your tickets automatically go into your "My Tickets" page for easy access and the ability to view info about the show and venue.

CONCLUSION
Buying tickets for a concert should be exciting. No one needs added stress when trying to go out and do something fun like seeing live music. By keeping everything straight forward and simple, concert goers can focus on enjoying the live shows and not have to worry about where their tickets are or if there were any surprise fees they didn't know about.
